Beer Brats with Marzen Beer Kraut

Ingredients

    1 Package of Beer Brats
  • 2
    1 Package Brat Buns
  • 3
    Sauerkraut - 2 Lbs Bag
  • 4
    1/2 Yellow Onion, Minced
  • 5
    1 Clove Garlic, Minced
  • 6
    Butter - 2 Tbsp
  • 7
    1/2 tsp Coarse Ground Black Pepper
  • 8
    ½ cup Marzen-Style Oktoberfest beer
  • 9
    6 oz water
  • 10
    Stone Ground Brown Mustard

You can never have too many brat recipes for Oktoberfest. Char-Griller Ambassador Bryan Head of @thebbqhead took his brat recipe up a notch and upgraded his sauerkraut with some butter, garlic, and onions.

Instructions for Kraut:

1. Prepare grill for medium-low heat around 300-350°F

2. In a medium sized saucepan, melt butter

3. Add onion and garlic, cook 3-4 minutes until softened

4. Add beer and cook for 2 minute

5. Add sauerkraut, water, and pepper

6. Cook until warm and simmering

Instructions for Brats:

1. Prepare grill for medium-low heat around 300-350° F

2. Place bratwursts in grill over direct heat source

3. Cook low and slow, be sure to turn frequently for even cooking

4. Try not to overcook or use high heat. Pull when outside is browned/caramelized and internal temperature is between 160-165° F

5. Butter inside of sausage rolls and toast over heat source until desired texture is achieved

6. Serve bratwurst on roll topped with sauerkraut and stone ground mustard
