Grilled Apple Cider Glazed Ribs

How to Choose the Best Baby Back Ribs for Apple Cider Glazing

Choosing the right baby back ribs is key to making tender, flavorful Apple Cider Glazed Ribs. Look for ribs that are fresh, meaty, and evenly shaped to ensure even cooking and the best smoke absorption. Here’s what to check when selecting your ribs:

  • Meat-to-bone ratio: Opt for ribs with plenty of meat on each bone for juicy, satisfying bites.
  • Color and freshness: Choose ribs with a pinkish-red color and avoid any gray or dried edges.
  • Marbling: Look for thin streaks of fat throughout the meat for added flavor and tenderness.
  • Flexibility: Ribs should bend slightly but not feel stiff, indicating they are not too old or dry.

Grilling Tips for Juicy, Smoky Ribs on the Char-Griller Barrel Pro

Grilling your ribs on the Char-Griller Barrel Pro ensures a perfect balance of smoky flavor and tender, juicy meat. Preheat the grill to a low, steady temperature for indirect cooking, then place the ribs bone-side down so the smoke infuses slowly. Baste occasionally with the apple cider glaze to build layers of flavor, and finish over a slightly hotter section of the grill to create a caramelized, charred edge. These simple steps make it easy to achieve ribs that are sweet, smoky, and fall-off-the-bone delicious.

Instructions

  1. 01

Trim your ribs removing any dangling pieces of meat and removing the back membrane.

  2. 02

Cover the front and back of the ribs with 4 Tbsp of the BBQ rub.

  3. 03

Bring your Barrel Pro cooker up to 300 degrees by banking your coals to the right side of the cooker and adding 1/4 chimney of lit coals to them.

  4. 04

Place both racks of ribs on the upper shelf directly above the coals for half an hour.

  5. 05

After half an hour flip the ribs top side down. If the color is turning a dark red move them to the other side of the cooker still on the top rack.

  6. 06

While waiting another half an hour add the jelly and honey to a pot on the stove heating it till the jelly melts. Then add the cider, chili powder, and last Tbsp of BBQ rub and combine until the glaze forms.

  7. 07

After another half an hour check the ribs, if they are roughly 200 degrees or higher move them to the main grate and add the glaze over the top, close the lid and let the glaze set for three to five minutes.

  8. 08

Remove the ribs from the grill cut and serve.
