Char Glazed BBQ Chicken Sandwich

The Best Chicken for Grilled Sandwiches

When it comes to creating the ultimate grilled chicken sandwich, selecting the right cut of chicken is key to achieving the perfect balance of flavor and texture. For this Char Glazed BBQ Chicken Sandwich, boneless skinless chicken breasts are the go-to choice. Their mild flavor and tender texture make them ideal for absorbing the smoky flavors from your Char-Griller Smokin’ Pro offset smoker while still holding up to that rich, tangy BBQ glaze.

Alternatively, chicken thighs are an excellent option for those who prefer a juicier and more flavorful cut. With a higher fat content, thighs stay moist during grilling and offer a slightly richer taste that pairs perfectly with smoky barbecue sauce.

The Best Toppings

The right toppings can elevate your Char Glazed BBQ Chicken Sandwich from delicious to unforgettable. Whether you prefer something classic or want to experiment with unique flavors, here are some top-notch options to complement that smoky, tangy grilled chicken:

1. Crispy Bacon – Add some crunch and savory goodness with a few slices of crispy bacon. The smokiness pairs perfectly with the BBQ glaze, giving your sandwich a bold, irresistible flavor.
2. Cheese – A slice of sharp cheddar or smoked gouda will melt beautifully over your grilled chicken, adding richness and a creamy texture. If you’re in the mood for something different, try a blue cheese or pepper jack for an extra kick.
3. Pickles – Tangy, crunchy pickles are a must! They cut through the richness of the chicken and BBQ sauce, balancing the flavors perfectly. Dill pickles or bread-and-butter pickles work great, depending on your preference for sweetness or acidity.
4. Lettuce and Tomato – For a classic, fresh touch, add some crisp romaine lettuce and juicy sliced tomatoes. These simple, fresh veggies bring a refreshing contrast to the smoky chicken.

Side Options to Pair with Your Grilled Chicken Sandwich

The perfect side dish can complement your Char Glazed BBQ Chicken Sandwich and round out the meal with flavors and textures that enhance the experience. Here are some tasty side options to serve alongside your sandwich:

·       Ranch Potatoes – These crispy, golden ranch potatoes are the ideal side for a grilled chicken sandwich. Tossed with ranch seasoning and grilled to perfection, they add a savory, herby flavor and a satisfying crunch that pairs wonderfully with the smoky BBQ glaze on the chicken.

·       Grilled Romaine Salad with Creamy Jalapeño Ranch Dressing – For a lighter, fresh option, try a grilled romaine salad drizzled with creamy jalapeño ranch dressing. The charred romaine adds a smoky depth, while the creamy dressing brings a tangy, spicy kick that complements the flavors of the sandwich perfectly. It’s a great way to add a little crunch and a lot of flavors to your meal.

·       Mexican Street Corn – Bring a bold, flavorful side with Mexican street corn. Grilled to perfection and topped with a creamy mixture of mayo, cotija cheese, chili powder, and a squeeze of lime, this side adds a zesty, smoky bite that pairs beautifully with the tangy BBQ chicken.

This isn’t just any chicken sandwich. We’re talking about tender, juicy chicken kissed by smoke and charred just right, all nestled between two buns that soak up every drop of that mouthwatering glaze. If you’re ready to take your taste buds on a ride, this is the recipe to make it happen.

Instructions

  1. 01

Light a full chimney of charcoal and place the lit coals on the right side of the barrel of the Smokin' Pro offset smoker and adjust the vents to bring it up to 350 degrees.

  2. 02

  3. 03

When the smoker comes up to temperature place the chicken thighs on the left size of the cooker as far away from the coals as you can

  4. 04

After about 20 minutes check the temperature of the chicken thighs, if they are between 155 and 165 its time to start glazing

  5. 05

Take the BBQ sauce that has been warmed up, dunk each thigh in the sauce and arrange it directly over the hot coals and close the lid for three minutes.

  6. 06

Flip the chicken over for another two minutes or until all thighs are above 165 degrees internal temperature and you are happy with the level of char on them

  7. 07

Place the thighs on the buns, dress them as desired, and serve
