Hobby Turned Passion

Good food and BBQ has always been at the heart of my family gatherings growing up. From a young age, I’ve loved backyard cookouts and the different flavors that come with grilling. Over 15 years ago, I got my first kettle grill, and what started as a simple hobby quickly turned into a full-blown passion. Through years of trial and error, my recipes and grilling techniques have only improved, and I’ve gained a deep love for learning about other cultures and cuisines.

FAVORITE GRILL

Char-Griller Product of Choice

AKORN® Kamado

One of my favorite grills is my Ceramic Akorn grill. This thing is incredible—it holds heat so well that I can smoke low and slow for hours, or I can ramp up the temperature for hot and fast grilling or searing. Whether I’m smoking a brisket, making pulled pork, grilling chicken wings, or reverse-searing a tomahawk steak or tri-tip, this grill does it all and does it all perfectly!

Char-Griller Q&A with Dan Correa

What inspired you to start barbecuing? How long have you been doing it? Tell us how you got started?
My mom and family. My mom has always been known in the family as being the best cook. I always admired her passion. I been doing BBQ for about 16-17 years but after COVID a good friend of mine, Tone (TFTI BBQ) convinced me to take my cooking and show it on social media.
What advice would you give to Someone new to grilling? do you have any advice for a new content creator in the BBQ space?
My advice to someone new to BBQ is don’t be afraid to make mistakes. If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning. Also, never hesitate to ask others for advice, tips, or how-to’s. The BBQ community loves to help. On social media, be yourself and only compete with yourself. Don’t focus on others’ success or pace—create your own goals and set your own rhythm. And most importantly, have fun. Support others the way you want to be supported.
What is your favorite grilling technique that you've learned and why?
My favorite for grilling has to be the reverse sear. I love a good steak or tri-tip and reverse sear will hit your perfect doneness every time!
