Wait... marinara sauce on burgers? We promise your eyes do not deceive you, and we promise you'll love these Italian-inspired burgers. What's not to love when mozzarella, mushrooms, and bacon join forces to create one juicy burger?

Instructions

1. Light charcoal and push to one side of the grill, leveling them out to one layer

2. Pour 1” of oil in pan and place directly over coals and heat to 350

3. Place flour, salt, and Italian seasoning in a shallow bowl and dip each slice of cheese in the flour mixture, coating each side

4. Dip each slice into egg

5. Fully coat each slice in egg, then back again in the flour mixture. Allow to set, refrigerated for 15 minutes.

6. Meanwhile, dice one portabella cap

7. Mix both meats, diced mushrooms, bell pepper, red pepper, and parmesan together just until combined

8. Spoon meat mixture into each portabella cap

9. Wrap each burger patty with bacon. I found it easiest to weave 6 pieces of bacon, lay the patty in the middle and wrap the weaved bacon carefully around

10. Place patties on the side of the grill with no charcoal, flip patties half way through

11. While patties are cooking, fry the mozzarella until golden brown on each side and place on paper towel to drain

12. Cook burgers until bacon is crispy and internal temperature is 140

13. Place cheese slices on top of each burger. Remove from grill when internal temperature reaches 145

14. Add patties to bottom bun, top with fried mozzarella and marinara sauce
